Abstract:
Recently, dynamic excitation loads often cause damages in the adjacent structures with different dynamic characters through the pounding effect. This study analyzes the pounding response of the two adjacent structures with different floor levels associated with earthquake excitation. The structure system model was built based on the finite element method, and the governing equation of the structure system motion was established based on the dynamic balancing principle and solved by the New mark method in the time domain. The results indicate that the characteristic parameters significantly affect the dynamic response of the structure system. This study also shows that the pounding effect causes damages to the adjacent structure.
